People on the Side: New Work by Danica A. Olders

Two Week Exhibit

Opening Night: Friday June 15 8pm

Danica Anastasia Olders is a Canadian fiber artist. In November 2010, she
had her solo undergraduate exhibition at the Anna Leonowens Gallery in
Halifax, Nova Scotia where she showed her tent series titled Settler
Peoples – An Investigation of Space.

From January to May 2011 she attended the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago as an exchange student where she studied fashion, fiber and
learned traditional shoemaking. In May, she was in two group shows:
Portable Magic at the Hudson Gallery and The Length of My Body at the Tom
Robinson Gallery in Chicago. She graduated NSCAD University in May 2011
with a major in textiles and minor in fashion.

The Lost City

It is thoughtful, complex and virtually striking. It makes connections and
critically analyses each part – concept, material, application, technique
and function. Taken as a whole or peeled off into layers, my work is aware
that people can be viewed as a mass or individually; comparing the
singular being to the collective being. It is interested in our vices,
virtues, habits and rituals.

My art becomes a working, breathing mechanism of the hand that is affected
by three things: time, money and the machine. Three man made values by
which we weigh and measure our lives. My work is inspired and relative to
the destructive effects of these things and our ever-growing dependency on
